The United Nations, headquartered in New York City, is an international organization whose stated aims include promoting and facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, political freedoms, democracy, and the achievement of lasting world peace.

In support of the administrative operation of its diplomatic actions and peacekeeping missions, the UN developed various custom legacy modules known as IMIS. However, the burden of maintenance and interoperability between the modules led the UN to replace them with a SAP ECC 6.0 solution. The project (with the fancy name Umoja, which means unity in Swahili) includes the HR, financial, inventory management and project modules.

In 2012, TGV—which first became a UN services provider in 2008—was chosen to join the Umoja project, working on the same team with UN personnel, performing functional and technical consulting for data migration from the legacy systems to the SAP HCM module.

Methodologically, the project was based on Scrum and Kanban; the technologies used are SAP SRM, HCM, ABAP, BODS (Business Objects Data Services).
